Donations to the Canossian Missions Hong Kong
There has been a recent email circulating
among alumnae about donations to the Canossian Missions Hong Kong.
Here are a few words of explanation from Sister Ida with her deep
gratitude for your concern and generosity.

Dear Past Students,
It seems that what had been shared by me
with some of you regarding the situation of the Sisters in Hong Kong has
been somewhat misunderstood.
It is true that we have become fewer:
-
1/3 of what we were in the 80’s,
-
most of us are elderly (over 60+) and
retired,
-
we have no pension from the
Government,
-
our schools, except for 3, are all
run now by lay Heads/Principals, thus diminishing the monthly income
of the Convents,
-
there have been no new vocations for
the last 3 years, with little prospects of new intake in the
immediate future…
Yes, this is all true and, of course, it
has not made things easier for us. Still, I would like to clarify that
we are not yet in a desperate financial situation or in dire need.
Modestly and with God’s Providence, which is never lacking, we can still
manage.
So, please do not be over-concerned about
us or our present condition. I must say, however, that we have always
appreciated very much your kindness and love for the Sisters, which I
hope will continue to grow with time. Hopefully this clarification will
put your hearts at peace about us.
Thank you once again for your great love
and concern. May the Lord bless each one of you and all your dear ones.
With love and prayers,
Sr. Ida Sala

Sister Cynthia Chan, Provincial Superior
of the Canossian Missions, Hong Kong & Macau, also sent us a note to
thank our concern.
